David Hockney

David Hockney

David Hockney was born in Bradford, England, on July 9, 1937. He is 75 year old. The style and narure of his work is mostly collages of people and of nature.David Hockney was influenced by poets such as Walt Whitman and his motives in photography was to capture different sides to people. I have chosen this photographer because his work is really creative and inspiring.

I have chosen these two pictures of David Hockney's because i find the style off these types of pieces really creative and inspiring. In these pictures, he has taken pictures of the same person, from different angles and with different facial expressions and used Photoshop to put these pictures together and make a fantastic collage out of them. The pictures are layered over each other in squares/rectangles. The lighting in this picture creates an amazing effect, making it stand out more. For example, on the top part of the old ladies face, it is less lit than the bottom part and on the old mans face, on every picture, there is a different contrast between one side and the other. The most thing I like about these pictures is that although different sides and angles of the face have been taken, you are still able to tell and see that it is the same person in the photo. Also, although rectangles and squares are known as simple shapes; they create a really exciting effect of these pictures. In these abstracts, pictures are overlapping, this makes the picture look really interesting. The picture of the old man gives a depressing affect as all the pictures in the collage seem to be looking down and  none are smiling.
